These are Prawns. No-one in Australia would call a prawn a “shrimp,” unless he was taking the piss out of Americans, in which case he might use “barbie” as well.
Although “Barbie” has slunk into the language, from the American dialect, and the near constant fun of taking the piss out of Americans.
While prawns in Australia are occasionally barbecued, they are more commonly cooked by boiling, briefly, cooled in ice and eaten cold, with beer. Lots of beer.
