借 ㄐㄧㄝˋ古 ㄍㄨˇ諷 ㄈㄥˋ今 ㄐㄧㄣ
英to use the past to disparage the present (idiom)
Pronounced in Japanese as しゃっこうふうきん ... by a Japanese character supposedly in the 1940s or so. (Before 1950, during World War II.)
Explained in the film as, quote, "昔の話を借りて、今の時代を風刺する。"
Basically, when you use a historic setting to discuss/criticize contemporary problems or people.
Similar to how science fiction novels or Hollywood sci-fi films often are set in non-existent realms, but are actually discussing human issues such as racism, etc.
Online, someone wrote
"昔のことを現代に投影して
風刺すると言うことだが・・・" and then went on to criticize someone..
But it seems like that may be the opposite of its intended meaning?
