... and as for that  かうれう  there; from what period of time is that? Linguistically there was a transformation and transition from Chinese pronunciations to Japanese ones. Is there a linguistic term for this change, or for the time period in which it happened?

So, back in the day, in a time when Japan didn't know toothpaste? But perhaps there was something else put on the teeth, or another custom, which existed to prevent tooth decay..?
