漢字バトル３ Kanji Battle III

Here's just a general overview/sweep of all the "versus" situations that have popped up during my quick survey of the 常用漢字 (joyo kanji, long O's on both).
I have to learn about 20 a day in order to reach my goal, so I'll take all the motivation I can get. I'm even thinking of investing in a Nintendo DS and some kanji software to get things going...
泳ぎ 対 水泳分
well, it's really 泳ぎ VS 永遠, "swim" vs "eternity". The only difference is the water radical (さんずい).
捨てる vs 拾う【ひろう】 (v5u) to pick up, to find, to gather, (P)
The difference here is 2 strokes... or, mentally, すてる is 土 under a "roof" (is that really a roof?) and ひろう is a 手偏 (hand radical) and the kanji from 合う.
Remember: You THROW THINGS AWAY on the ground, so -> 捨てる
Your HAND MEETING THINGS is 拾う.
Yay for kanji that make sense.
「土に捨てて、手と物が合って、拾って。」
役 【やく】 (n,n-suf) use, service, role, position, (P) VERSUS
(No connection to 殴る, to strike or hit. +1 Joyopoint, though. Wait, actually, the right radical's exactly the same!
殳 is the radical.. しゅ.. but it doesn't really mean anything by itself, just as someone's name or "windy-again", whatever that really means.
「お父さん殴る人?」 ... funny line from Sugihara's girlfriend in GO (his dad's a boxer why has beat him at times)
夫【おっと】 (n) (hum) (my) husband, (P) VS 矢 【や】
Well, this one's just a visual mistake.
夫を矢で殴って、殺した！ Woah, 殺す also has that "windy-again" しゅ radical! +1 joyo point
(Sorry for the grisly example. It's all kanji-related, like 「家にある女は安い」)
練る （ねる）knead, work over, polish up
is the same kanji in 練習
It's a small kanji world out there, huh.
壁 VS 整
整える is to put in order, arrange/adjust, to get ready and to prepare, and to get money...
so, you want to do things properly, which is the bottom radical (正しい）
→「正しく整えてね！」
I really wonder if these mnemonics could help anyone but myself..
And it's interesting, that 整える's kanji is learned in the 3rd year of elementary school but 壁 is learned in the 3rd year of middle school.. so that'd make me backwards.
The first is 軍 【ぐん】 (n,n-suf) army, force, troops, (P) ; the second is a storehouse or warehouse, pronounced often as コ or sometimes くら.
Ex:
I'm amused by the literal meaning of credit union : "a safe/vault you can trust". What's a 銀行 doing with your money then, hmm? That's just "where your money goes" (literally?)
「軍の車庫」 (military car shed)
銀 and 眼鏡 can be discerned just for fun... the right radical in is the same.
「銀の眼鏡」 -- hey, the second kanji in めがね is 鏡 (mirror/かがみ)! +2 JY points.
炭 （すみ）is charcoal, 岩 is a rock or "crag", a word I've never used.

金庫 【きんこ】 (n) safe, vault, treasury, provider of funds, (P)
