I ordered something called 中華(something) at a restaurant and never found out what it was; a day or so later I saw someone eating 中華そば or some other noodle, and didn't know what it meant.
Now I know-- instead of asking someone if they want 中国料理, I'll ask if they want to go for 中華料理! (And wonder, if 「中華料理は行けるかい？」）

漢民族が、周囲の国家や民族は自らより劣るととらえ、自分たちこそが世界の中心にある文化的に優れた国家・民族であるとして自らを指した呼称（美称）。同時に周辺民族を東夷、西戎、南蛮、北狄、などと蔑称した。
日本書紀の雄略天皇紀にも、日本が自らの事を「中国」と呼ぶ記録があり、そうした所は中華思想の影響をうけていると思われる。
